about

Previously unpublished first recording of the German krautrock-ambient group Camera Obscura.

In 1983, the three musicians lived together in a beautiful half-timbered house in the countryside east of Cologne. They recorded this music in their little basement studio on a four-track tape machine.

Later that year, the trio went into Matthias Becker's Originalton West label in Cologne to recreate this music under studio conditions. Matthias joined the group at once, considerably influencing the sound of the recordings, and contributing a beautiful additional piece. The resulting album, released 1984 as vinyl and on CD several years later, can still be obtained from www.originaltonwest.de.

Compared to the official Camera Obscura album (their only one) with its perfect studio quality, these first recordings have a certain innocence and a raw kind of beauty to them.
